Student Governor
at Barton Peveril Sixth Form College
Term of Office: 5th May 2003 - 31st March 2004
As Student Governor, I took the responsibility of representing the student body at corporation meetings contributing to decisions on the running of the college ensuring consideration of the opinions of the student population.
My duties included delivering a monthly report back to the Student Committee on the decisions made during corporation meetings, and then relaying the committee's feedback to the governors.
During my time in Office, the college was in the process of finalising plans on a new £7 million building project. Therefore, I had the opportunity to influence the planning ensuring that maximum wheelchair accessibility was incorporated into the building project. The new building was completed and officially opened in January 2006.
My experience of sitting on the board of governors at my sixth form college has helped me to develop my awareness of how decisions can affect people and resources. In addition, it served as an opportunity for me to refine and develop my skills in discussing issues within a corporate setting.
I still maintain a good relationship with the board of governors after leaving four years ago.
