I developed the concept of a weekly talk show with a friend (the presenter) which discussed ‘taboo’ issues with expert guests answering questions brought up by students.

As Producer, I was responsible for researching topics and guests to appear on future shows. Considering the nature of the topics discussed, it was crucial that I produced reliable and accurate research. In doing this, I was in continuous contact with organisations and individuals to ensure that the information given out on-air was totally factual and ethical.

This role also provided me with extensive experience in negotiating clearances and agreements with student services to broadcast discussion on sensitive topics, such as sexual health

In addition, I successfully undertook the responsibility of negotiating with agents and securing well-known guests. For example, I successfully organised an election special where local MP candidates came into the studio to answer questions from students – the aim of this was to re-ignite political interest within the student community.

I thoroughly enjoyed this as I was constantly meeting new people and learning new subjects. I was also faced by problems which I had to solve under pressure. I had the opportunity to work collaboratively as well as individually. Organisation and communication was one of the key requirements and this did help me to further successfully develop these skills.
