B211 Case Study of UMTV

In January 2006, I completed a two week work placement at UMTV Productions in Camden, London. UMTV is owned by Chris Evans, but it has not got anything to do with Ginger Productions, which was included in the acquisition of Ginger Media Group bought by Scottish Media Group in 1999.

I managed to secure this placement simply through networking - I had previously undertaken a day's placement with the the company in November 2002 (please click here for further details) where I assisted them with writing a Programme as Completed Document.  Back then, they were in temporary offices.

When I re-visited them in January 2006, they were now in a fancy office block.  I was briefed to do a case study on how UMTV operated as a workforce.

I straightaway felt welcomed even though I was going into a very close and mature team of people.  It was a co-incidence that my birthday just so happened to fall on the Tuesday in my first week at UMTV, and as a result, the entire production office surprised me with a card and cake.  I thoroughly enjoyed his time at UMTV.
