B301 Research for Production

This unit served as an opportunity for me to carry out the production research needed to undertake my major project - a television documentary production. It was built on previous units and entailed me to create a feasibility study analysing commissioning patterns within the industry, discussing which broadcasting channels would be best targeted with my idea, and profiling a specific target-audience for my proposed package.

In this digital age of segmented media consumption, I took this opportunity to re-familiarise myself with different audience classification systems (such as ACORN and ABCs), and also at how different styles of documentary and representation of disability in the media attract different audiences.

At the end of the unit, I delivered a ten minute PowerPoint presentation 'pitching' my idea and summarising my research which I undertook over an eight week period. My research proved invaluable in designing my script outline for my major project.
